Theme Park Mask Policies: What You Need to Know

While a lot of places around the US have opened at 100% capacity, removed their social distancing guidelines, etc., mask rules are more confusing than ever right now.

I’m going to make this as simple as possible for you all and list what the major theme parks are doing right now regarding to masks.

*PLEASE NOTE: These policies are CONSTANTLY changing, sometimes on a daily basis. Be sure to check the park’s website for any updates before your trip!*

This is what we have so far:

Universal Orlando: Relying on the honor system. Vaccinated guests are no longer required to wear masks indoors or outdoors, but no proof of vaccination is required.

From their website: “In accordance with CDC guidelines, face coverings are no longer required for fully vaccinated guests, indoors or outdoors. While we do not require proof of vaccination, we do expect those who are not fully vaccinated to wear face coverings while indoors. We encourage all guests to keep a safe distance between travel parties, and we remain focused on maintaining the highest cleanliness and sanitization standards.”

Disneyland: Bring your mask.

From their website: “Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and older) and Cast Members, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine.”

Disney World: A bit more complicated, but the short version is: masks are to be worn on all transportation (monorail, bus, Skyliner, etc.), indoors, on rides, and in the ride queues. You can take your mask off when walking around outside; that’s it.

From their website: “Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them in all indoor locations, except when actively eating or drinking while stationary and maintaining appropriate physical distancing. Face coverings are optional in outdoor common areas at Walt Disney World Resort, but are still required upon entering and throughout all attractions, indoor theaters and transportation.”

Sea World Orlando and San Antonio: Same as Universal Orlando; the honor system. No masks required for vaccinated guests, but no proof of vaccination is required.

From their website: “Face coverings will no longer be required for guests and Ambassadors who are fully vaccinated in accordance with CDC guidance. We will not require our guests to provide proof of vaccination but ask everyone to respectfully comply with our revised policy.”

Universal Hollywood: Bring your mask.

From their website: “Everyone is required to wear a face covering during their visit.” Simple and to the point, there.

Six Flags Magic Mountain (California) and Six Flags Over Texas: Bring your mask.

From their website: “Masks are required for all guests and Team Members while they are in the park. If you are unable to wear a mask (N95, Surgical or cloth) then you may wear an acrylic face shield while you are in the park. NOTE: Acrylic face shields may NOT be worn on ANY attractions. Only guests wearing a mask may ride the attractions.”

Cedar Point: This one is a bit contradictory, but basically, it’s saying if you’re vaccinated, no mask. If not vaccinated, then mask up indoors. They are not asking for proof of vaccination, however.

From their website: “All guests age 10 and older who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear face coverings while indoors unless actively eating and drinking. Face coverings for guests who are not fully vaccinated are recommended but not required.”

Hershey Park: The honor system. Masks are required for those not vaccinated, but it looks like they aren’t asking for proof.

From their website: “Face coverings and social distancing for guests who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required effective immediately. Of course, all vaccinated guests are free to continue to wear face coverings if they choose to do so. All guests two years of age and older who are not fully vaccinated must wear face coverings during their visit except while eating or drinking. We will rely on our guests to accurately follow the guidelines based on their vaccination status.”

Kings Dominion: The honor system. Masks are required for those not vaccinated, but it looks like they aren’t asking for proof.

From their website: “A face covering for each guest age 2 years and older who is not fully vaccinated. All guests age 2 and older who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear a face covering while indoors unless actively eating or drinking. Face coverings are recommended but not required for fully vaccinated guests.”

Busch Gardens Tampa and Virginia: The honor system.

From their website: “Face coverings will no longer be required for guests and Ambassadors who are fully vaccinated in accordance with CDC guidance. We will not require our guests to provide proof of vaccination but ask everyone to respectfully comply with our revised policy.”

And there we have it! I hope this helps those of you planning vacations to the theme parks soon. Again, PLEASE note that these policies are changing all the time, and double-check the policy the day before your trip! We’ll keep you updated with any major changes here, of course.

Florida they legally can’t ask guests. Desantis passed a bill that can fine the business $5000, which can add up.
