LOTR: The War of the Rohirrim Producer Calls Out Rings of Power

Amazon’s Rings of Power was one the biggest disasters in fantasy history and was soundly rejected by Tolkien fans. Inversely, Warner Bros.’ The War of the Rohirrim prequel anime has been met with a degree of hope and excitement amongst Tolkien fans, enthusiasts, and normies alike, all looking forward to its 2024 release. The involvement of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy alum Phillipa Boyens is the key instigator of this hope. There is always the possibility of the rug getting pulled out from beneath the fans once again, resulting in a horrendously written and inaccurate adaptation of Tolkien’s work. However, all the news surrounding the anime has been stacked so firmly in the positive territory that fans have complete justification for their excitement.

Nothing is more endearing to fans — at least in terms of convincing them that creatives’ intentions are in the right place — than creatives standing with fans against those who would destroy their beloved IPs. A Warner Brothers producer working on The War of the Rohirrim has done just that. In a series of now-deleted tweets, due to the hate he received, this producer, Jason DeMarco, reacted to an IGN article claiming to have all the lore answers for the remaining questions left after The Rings of Power.

Don’t expect answers that make any sense or derive from Tolkien! . . . Why make a show that’s first and foremost going to appeal to Tolkien fans, only to s**t all over the world, characters and story that made us all fall in love with Middle-Earth to begin with? I sure couldn’t tell you.

In just a few words, DeMarco summed up the baffling situation at Amazon while only increasing the likelihood that The War of the Rohirrim will achieve the basic tenet of a good adaptation: respecting the source material.
