NBC Picks Up Sci-fi Show Debris

A new sci-fi duo is on the case for NBC.  Deadline reports that the network has ordered Debris to series. This was one of the few pilots that were able to complete filming in a way not too dissimilar to the way The Blacklist’s season finale came together. The plot centers on a CIA agent and an MI6 agent investigating a crashed alien spaceship and its effects on humankind. Said to be akin to The X-Files, Debris comes from Fringe and Almost Human producer J. H. Wyman and stars City on a Hill’s Jonathan Tucker and The Magicians’ Riann Steele.

This type of series is exactly why I love pilot season. Every year, the broadcast networks take a chance on genre projects, whether it’s NBC with things like Revolution and The Event or CBS with Extant. Being the latest entry in the genre TV tradition, Debris is right up my alley and represents another big swing for Wyman after Almost Human. I loved that show, so I look forward to seeing what Wyman brings to the broadcast networks this time. I know this might be overly optimistic given the fact that network genre shows never last long, but I think this has the potential to be the next big hit for NBC, assuming they hew to a procedural angle and keep the premise straightforward. All too often, these series get bogged down in mythology, causing the audiences to lose interest. I can’t wait to find out when Debris debuts this fall.

Is Debris on your watch list, or are you over the broadcast networks and their attempts at genre shows? Are you a fan of Wyman’s past work, or is he putting you off Debris? Let us know in the comments and stay safe and healthy as Geeks + Gamers brings you more movie and TV news!

If it’s anything like other series these producers have made, it will start out interesting and have some plot points to draw you in. Then it will show as it goes on there was no real overall plan for anything being set up and it will collapse.
