First ‘House of the Dragon’ last night and now this. Santa seems to be giving me a lot of early Christmas treats this year🤣😍. The only Monsterverse film I didn’t like was the 2014 ‘Godzilla’ film because you couldn’t make out Zilly most of the time on it despite the excellent design. Bit of a waste of time if you ask me🥱. Spent most of it wanting to watch the 1998 Godzilla film instead😅. Despite the reception of that, I’d like to see a crossover with the Godzilla ’98 team and the Godzilla 2014 team. I think it’d be interesting.

based on Robert C. O’Brien’s 1971 children’s novel, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.
From Nicodemus, she learns that many years ago the rats, along with her husband and Ages, were part of a series of experiments at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH for short).

Reminds me a wee bit of Watership Down.

Brisby longs to move her family out of the field as plowing time approaches but her son Timothy has fallen ill.

Brisby visits Mr. Ages, a friend of her late husband, Jonathan. Ages diagnoses the illness as pneumonia, provides Brisby with medicine, and warns her that Timothy must stay inside for at least three weeks or he could die. On her way home, Brisby befriends Jeremy, a clumsy but friendly crow. They both narrowly escape from the Fitzgibbons’ cat, Dragon. The next morning, Brisby discovers that Farmer Fitzgibbons has started plowing early. Although her neighbor Auntie Shrew helps her disable his tractor, Brisby knows she must devise another plan. Jeremy takes her to meet the Great Owl, who tells her to visit a colony of rats that live beneath a rose bush on the farm and ask for the services of Nicodemus, their wise and mystical leader.

Brisby enters the rose bush and encounters an aggressive guard rat named Brutus, who chases her away. She is led back in by Ages, and is amazed to see the rats’ use of electricity and other technology. Brisby meets Justin, the friendly captain of the guard; Jenner, a ruthless and power-hungry rat opposed to Nicodemus; and finally Nicodemus himself.

The experiments boosted their intelligence, enabling them to escape, as well as extending their lifespans and slowing their aging processes. However, they are unable to live as typical rats would, and need human technology to survive, which they have accomplished only by stealing. Nicodemus has authorized a plan for the rats to leave the farm and live independently in an area they refer to as Thorn Valley.

Nicodemus gives Brisby a magical amulet that will activate when the wearer is courageous. Because of the rats’ relationship with Jonathan, they agree to help her move her home. First, they need to drug Dragon so that it can be done safely. Only Brisby can do this, as the rats cannot fit through the hole leading into the house; Jonathan was killed by Dragon in a previous attempt, while Ages broke his leg in another. That night, she puts the drug into Dragon’s dish, but the Fitzgibbons’ son, Billy, catches her. While trapped in a birdcage, she overhears a telephone conversation between Farmer Fitzgibbons and the staff of NIMH and learns that the institute intends to exterminate the rats in the morning. Brisby then escapes from the cage and runs off to warn them.

As a rainstorm approaches, the rats begin moving the Brisby home, with the children and Auntie Shrew inside, using a rope and pulley system. Jenner, who wishes for the rats to remain in the rose bush, sabotages the assembly with his reluctant accomplice Sullivan, causing it to fall apart and crush Nicodemus to death. Brisby soon arrives to warn the rats about NIMH’s arrival, but Jenner attacks her and attempts to steal the amulet. Sullivan alerts Justin, who comes to Brisby’s aid. Jenner mortally wounds Sullivan but is injured by Justin in a sword fight. As Jenner attempts to attack Justin from behind, the dying Sullivan throws a dagger into his back, killing him. The Brisby home begins to sink into a mud puddle and Brisby and the rats are unable to raise it. Brisby’s will to save her family gives power to the amulet, which she uses to lift the house and move it to safety. The next morning, the rats, with Justin as their new leader, have departed for Thorn Valley as Timothy begins to recover. Jeremy soon meets a female crow who is just as clumsy as he is, and they fall in love.

Some thoughts on the finale and the series:

    • The wholesale theft of the third act of Return of the Jedi is so egregious that Disney stands a chance of avenging Anas in court.  There is no way in which a scenes à faire excuse would hold up in front of a judge.
    • Terry must have forgot that Raffi was a captain, as her presence in the obvious sequelbait series strains credulity more than Riker spending 15 years under Picard.  There were also strange lines in the finale from both Raffi and Seven, as if they were delivering lines of dialogue meant for the other instead of themselves.
    • Personal negative, but I hate the cool main cast outfits.  I understand that it comes from Picard having to look unique and production not wanting another Generations scenario with mix-and-match uniforms, but did Geordi really need one as well?
    • Stewart’s reaction upon seeing the Enterprise makes me wonder how the first 20 producers had so little control over him, and what Terry hung over his head to get him to actually act for once.
    • A toy maker couldn’t ask for a better deal than being able to sell both the Titan and the Enterprise-G, both made from the exact same mold with different registry number decals, twice over to addicted fans.  Perhaps they could create artificial scarcity for the Enterprise and add a 0 to the price tag for a “Special Collector’s Edition” version?
    • I don’t know if it came up in Voyager, but wouldn’t unknown cultures that have had previous contact with the Borg naturally be in fear of Seven?  I understand that she’s fit for a command position, but why is she leading an exploratory mission?  This is only exacerbated by her desire to use her Borg name, jeopardizing galactic diplomacy for her own ego.

It’s nowhere near as bad as anything such as Rings of Power, Doctor Who, or Watchmen.  It’s nowhere close to the quality of House of the Dragon either.  It’s impressive that Terry managed to accomplish this with so little budget and time, but I can’t see this standing the test of time in the way First Contact has.  Moreover, this series left me with no desire for anything more from this universe.  Trek is due for a reboot, but in this decade, there is no one worth trusting with the property.

I might work on a laundry list of criticisms for this series (such as Worf having a backstory clearly set up for his character only to be reduced to comic relief in the back half), but the show almost isn’t worth engaging on that level.  The true drama is from those who would happily take 30 pieces of silver to sell their audience on mediocrity.

    “Trust no one,” indeed, Beverly.

The spoilers are out there if you know where to look.  Callbacks and nostalgia bait reach the level of The Force Awakens.  Fascinatingly, Trek and Wars have both damaged their play narratives in the exact same way; if people like the season for the returning cast, the viewer is left bereft of enjoyment for the illusion of its universe, making the production of subsequent content increasingly insurmountable without a full reboot.

It has also been interesting to watch so many critics go all in and stake their entire credibility on this series.  House of the Dragon had its first six episodes sent out, yet each week was taken with extreme caution.

Episode Boring, worse Season  7 of GOT reborn for most  of the episode and season 8 showed its ugly head at the ending.

I will simply make this short. 55 plus minutes of filler and absolute boorishness.  The king is dead and we see Alicent playing against her Father to get control of Aegon.  I was worried when this episode came along if the actors who play Otto and Alicent could pull it off and the answer is NO…. They are boorish and unbelievable in a situation where the gravity of the situation should be massive, I was bored!

Even what might have been a decent part of it with Criston and Aemond I found only “meh” at best. This episode was for 55 minutes nothing but filler and boring doing nothing.

But worse the last few minutes was pure Season Fucking 8 stupidity. The throne had been Usurped, Aegon was crowned and up from the Floor came Princess Rhaenys on her dragon, seeing this and nothing to stop her from killing the Usurper and  his allies her dragon screams at them, fucking screams. This is just absolute horrible writing and show running! She with one word could have ended it all right then and there.

What many were worried about, FILLER AND BAD STORY has happened.

My rating is a SEASON 8 FUCK OFF SHOW of (1). Way to go from season 4 to season 8 overnight!

This episode should have been called “Farewell Good Kings”

Oh ya spoiler, the king passes on.  I will not spoil or get to much in the plotting of this episode. It is something people should watch and really it was only ok to watch.

This episode was hard to watch as someone who has lost and sat by them as they went from a Mountain of a Man to a feeble cancer ridden shell of what he was. Entertainment today is so lacking in things that tear at you heart. This episode wow it hurt. But hurt is a good way, a way where a person you were invested in and cared about passed on. I would say this, Have tissue, it will rip at your heart if you ever had a love one taken by a horrible disease. FUCK OFF CANCER!

The episode started with the legitimacy of the succession of “The Lord of Tides” which was also the true title of the show. The Lord of tides has been injured (later we know killed) and the Bastards of Rhaenyra and their legitimacy is called to question and all parties are on the way to Kings Landing to have it Settled by “The Hand <Otto> of the king” as the King is on his death bed.

We get some politicking once everyone is there. Leading up to the petition in the throne room with Otto sitting the Iron Throne. Vaemond Velaryon is the one wanting to be named in place of the Bastards. We certainly get the dialogue. It seems Otto will certainly side with him until the doors open and the bed ridden disease ridden King comes in.

It was a long walk, one most time I would have said, to long to boring to stupid, why not just bring him in. But you understand in this He is still king and was still powerful. When he finally stumbled and his crown fell off it was Daemon there to pick it up and help him.

As truly fucked up as Daemon can and has been, the love and respect was still there, the scene worked in spades. I appreciated it and understood it and felt the pain.

The king sets the throne and ask why there is a question to the succession.  Rhaenys is called to settle it at which point she brings up a compromise Rhaenyra and Rhaenys had talked about earlier. To which the King seemed pleases with until Vaemond goes full retard. And when I say full retard, this dude went full on!

Vaemond Velaryon in front of the King calls his grandchildren BASTARDS and his daughter a WHORE.  The king says he will have his tongue, but Daemon says he can keep his tongue. Granted he said it after cutting his head in half. YES, yes, I smiled with pleasure.

We get a Dinner scene which is very nice, knowing the books I was concerned how it would go, but I enjoyed it. Love Paddy I really did, he is a father, Husband and Grandsire and just wants his family to be at peace. Before he leaves the Banquette, it appears he gets that. I am glad he gets to see them together he can rest in peace.

The final scene is just that, Rest in Peace good king.

Paddy better get a damn Emmy for this show or there is not justice left for great acting in Hollywood. Alicent I still cannot like her acting, the lines were great, she just is not believable for me. Otto was not bad in this, but he was more minimal in it. Daemon was great as always and Rhaenyra I have liked her and she is still likable.

The kids were aged up again and actually worked well, I hate time jumps and getting around to fast as a rule, but this is done really well and they remember to show things that will make it believable. Someone sat down clearly after GOT and said ((Find all the things we fucked up in GOT and make sure it cannot and does not happen again))

There was some things I have to take away from this episode. Alicent and her son’s conversation after his raping a servant girl was just so cringe to me. Also, some of the politicking in the Throne room before the king arrived.

I will give it an 8 out of 10.  I did a second watch this morning, so the onions were not so potent, and emotions did not cloud my judgement because I wanted to drop a 9.5 last night. But on second watch those scenes still bothered me enough to ding it.

All in all an outstanding performance by Paddy Constantine. Matt Smith says more in actions and his looks than he does words. I find myself wanting to see them as kids together.

I will again compare this show to the abortion amazon is conduction on Tolkien. I could have taken every act of this episode, even the ones I did not like, and had more information and progression with plot and character growth, than all of a BILLION DOLLAR ABORTION from Rings of Amazon.

There is more done in the first 15 minutes of this episode than 6 hours of Rings of Power. The tension between the Blacks and Greens is clear without 1 word being said and done so with only a few looks. We as the audience were shown and not told. It could be a persons first episode of this series and they would clearly see there is tension and clear dislike between characters and even the use of colors of clothing tell who is being poised against whom.

I really felt for The King, he just wants his family to be one happy or at least content family and Daemon was an absolute dick to him in the best possible way. You can tell he wants to truly be left alone and out of it, but at the same time has not forgiven him for past actions, even though justified. Daemon truly is tired of it all and wants nothing to do with Court. But even in his dick moment you can tell deep down he loves his brother but he just cannot have Viserys compassion, it is not who he is.

The next two scenes are more set-up, though for some reason I found satisfaction in both. Lord Corlys talking with his wife about the Linage a how it was Names and not Blood people remember was so medieval in truth and tone I truly enjoyed it and the grand scale of the room they were in, it conveyed power in the scene.

Rhaenyra and Daemon on the beach and them finally getting together was decent, it was a set-up scene but still well done and again the ability of the show to pull off large outdoor scenes giving us a true grand scale is impressive.

But then we get on to the Dragon Stealing, and the aftermath, I just cannot spoil this for people it was to well done and actually believable. Paddy knocked it out of the park, if there was an Oscar a true Oscar from back when they were given for true Magnificent acting Paddy would get it for this scene. And as an Emmy is all they give now for this type of acting he better get one. Truly the best of his career and one of the best scenes I have seen in at least Ten years.

The next two scenes are the aftermath and Otto and Alicent I just cannot get behind their characters, not in the writing or the lines, but the people playing them. They are trying to make Otto a Littlefinger with a touch of Tywin and which doesn’t work for me and Alicent I am finally convinced it is the two actress’s they found to play her that I just cannot find anything in her acting ability to make me believe her.

Rhaenyra and Laenor were excellent together, believable and the lines were done well, to bad for what happens next but the entire ending scene was incredible, true Game of Thrones tv. Daemon and Rhaenyra being Targaryen’s FINALLY.

This is a short review but so much happened and so little was needed in dialogue, ever last scene meant something and without the dialogue a deaf person could know what was happening and that it had Importance and weight. Gravity and Consequence was in every action.

I will give this episode a 10. How can I not when there is an Oscar worthy performance in it. Nor will I detract for a few nit-picks as that as well would be unfair, when doing a review honesty is important. The episode drew me in from the start and never lost me. It entertained me and isn’t that what it should do beyond all else?

I had to rewatch it this morning to write this, I watched it last night and went to bed satisfied and thinking about what I had just seen. Then now watch again to actually write the review. It was a 10 last night and on second watch I still give it that highest of praises. Even my criticisms of the “actors of Otto and Alicent” I will not detract from the lines spoken for. Paddy gave a performance of a lifetime, Daemon, Rhaenyra, Corlys and the Kids were all excellent.

I have still not forgotten Seasons 5 – 8 of GOT and know this can go off the rail at any time, but to judge this show on it would be just as bad as those who defend bad shows. I will not do that. But I will tell people if even you are not a fan of GOT or HotD, this is a episode worth watching, as it could be a stand alone by itself.

This is the first time I really felt like I was watching Game of Thrones when it was still great TV. We had Dragons, Intrigue, plots within plots the cinematography was second to none.

The actress swap was done well and you can tell the show runners knew they had to up their game and make it believable not only believable but elevate this episode as well. They pulled it off Both Rhaenyra and Alicent were aged properly and looked the role.

I still cannot stand the two actress’s they got to play Alicent, neither have the emotion or facial expressions to pull off the lines, and this actress change showed me it is not the writing it is fine. So it has to be the directors for her or the actress’s themselves.

But as Rhaenyra’s actress pulled off the lines and emotions, I am at a loss. Did they just get to women who have no emotions in their words or expressions to play Alicent?

Patty was so good in this episode and his role, shame he will be dying soon, he has really begun to shine, I believe him as a Father and a Patriarch of not a Kingdom but a family only wanting his family to be just that, A FAMILY.

Daemon, well Matt I have said it before was born for this role, He brings Daemon to life and even seeing his wife commit suicide he looked like he did care for her. He just wants to live in peace, not broken but just done with politics and back stabbing.

Rhaenyra, now her role I was most concerned with, the actress has made statements that were off-putting. Yes, I wish they would keep their fucking mouths shut, studios should really look at contracts that forbid employees from Politics or Social Agenda. It is how to lose half your customers and that is stupid.

But that aside she pulled off the role, I believed her and saw the start of the Civil war forming despite her trying to avoid it with a political means. When she saw what was coming, she did what was smart and left for Dragonstone.

I have to point out one glaring thing, the kids being instructed in fighting, Unlike Rings of Amazon, this scene was done very well, it was clearly of all scenes the setting up of the Blacks v Greens. Combat training done correctly and the clear foreshadowing in it was done perfectly for me.

This Episode rating is a 9.

It was the first time as I said, I had memories of the original GOT and almost everything was done on point. My biggest complaint of the cgi dragons this time was gone. I had to dock points for Alicent, I just cannot get over how bad  she is IMO.

In the first scene a couple new characters are shown Lady Rhea who runs in to a cloaked man Matt Smith, I mean Daemon who apparently has not banged her yet. This is STRONG WOMAN moment, that ends very badly in a horse accident. What the hell is with Horses in shows lately.

On to the King on a boat and some nice call backs to seasick people. Not sure why we had this seen, but then we get to see Otto leaving Kings Landing. But not before he had a nice mental beat down of his daughter. He emphasized “Daughter,” yup he is the dick we all know he is. Topping it off with a hug even.

And back to the King fresh off the boat in his carriage, clearly, we are now going to make the wedding plans with Lord Corylus, who cannot be bothered to meet with the king on his arrival.

Back to Kings Landing and Alicent and more time with the Weirwood and Lord what’s his name with the bad foot. And we get a conversation about the Tea. This is Lazy writing, as there is no way that information would be allowed to be made known.

Back to Rhaenyra and the King, finally meeting Lord Corylus in his throne room with no reception committee. What the hell, the King has come and no proper reception. Even “Hightide” doesn’t look to good, but we get to talking about Lady Rhea’s accident. This is when the King proposes the marriage. He proposes, and Lord Corylus wants details of the succession. And here we get the WOMAN will not change her name talk.

Lord Corylus accepts the offer calling it “An equitable compromise” The are not Targaryen’s accept in name only at this point. A Targaryen King would Demand and order not “Compromise”. Anyway we see Rhaenyra having a chat with the future X and well she was more Targaryen than her father.

Back to Corylus and his wife having a talk where she actually does say the King was begging. We also get the inference their son is gay, lol OH BTW HE IS. I find myself yawning at their conversation to be honest. Oh ya we know he is gay as the next conversation is with his lover and lets just put it this way no doubt about it.

At this point I am more interested in Holiday baking that’s on my TV than the show. Yes, I’m in a watch party and the show is boring me.

So now we are on to Rhaenyra and the King Maker errr Ser Cole having a conversation on the boat, he ask her to run off with him and see the world! LMAO ya he really said it. Wanting to go to Essos. Who wrote this episode? Did they borrow Amazons writers?

Anyways Rhaenyra refuses him and Ser Laenor of the limp wrist will be her choice to DO HER DUTY, and she and he made a “Arrangement” apparently Cole does not like the idea of being her Whore “his words not mine.”

BTW Halloween wars is more interesting than this.

Ok back to kings landing, where they at least remember to greet a King. Ser Criston is summoned by the Queen, no not Rhaenyra but Alicent, on a delicate matter. Anyone who cannot guess what that is, is a fool. I’m not even going to spell it out for you as unlike these writers I know my readers can figure it out. He admits he banged her. What and Idiot and bad writing. He would have never admitted to this, its Treason.

Next we get a “leaching scene” and the king wanting to know if he will be remembered as a Good king. It is clear he is dying, and honestly be done with it before the next episode that we get the Actress swap. His entire conversation is boring and then we are led to believe he dies. But nope he only went to sleep.

We then see multiple dragons flying well 2 anyway and a fleet of ships heading to Kingslanding, we get another feast and of course a Lannister and some woman putting down talk. Ser Gerold actually knows how to honor people at a feast. Yet that is interrupted by Lord Corylus and the King Consort.

Irony not lost here on King Consort on the heals of Elizabeth’s death and Charles “queen consort”

AND THEN DAEMON comes in, Hello Matty my old friend, come to start some shit again, have a seat at the kings table and be welcome.  OK Sorry im board and that is NEVER a good thing for a show watcher to say. BUT WAIT in comes the queen, yes Alicent in her GREEN dress. To bad Rhaenyra is not in her BLACK dress, would have been more accurate. FYI Rhaenyra is in WHITE.

The king continues with his speech and announces the 7 days of Parting and then the Wedding will happen. The future King and Queen have a nice little dance lots of glaring around the room during it and when its over, another dance starts and the Green Queen has a chat with her uncle and we see the start of the alliances being made.

The lord of the Vale Ser Royce starts shit with Daemon making an accusation of him killing his wife. Daemon fires back with a question of inheritance which leaves him dumbfounded.

Good lord someone pull the plug on this episode, yes its moving the plot along and a pace a Hobbit could catch the snail and eat it.

Well, Gay guy has figured out clearly who has been banging Rhaenyra even though ser Cole never is looking at her much. Which is purely bad writing and then gay dude goes to confront him in a roundabout way, with what he knows. Ser Joffery is the gay guy’s name? really? LMAO.

Daemon goes to dance whit Rhaenyra and they have the best conversation of the show, Something Bad is going on and we find out it is a fight between what looks like Gay dude and Criston and then in good ole fashion bar room brawling everyone has to get involved.  Criston kills the Gay guy in a most Mountain of ways.

Well that is one way to end a Party, Dothraki Party.

And then we have a unceremonious wedding right after the party, No festival, no partying for 7 days. Just do it now. Ser Criston is stopped from committing Harikari by Alicent and thank the Seven this shit is over.

Im giving this a 3 out of 10. I was bored and really this was just BAD on all levels. Still better than Rings of Prime but that aint saying much.
