New Dune Trailer Releases

Pretend I said something clever about spice because Warner Bros. has released a new Dune trailer. An adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel, Dune stars Timothée Chalamet as hero Paul Atreides, with Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, and Jason Momoa in supporting roles. The first of a planned two-part film, this is the third successful adaptation of the book, following David Lynch’s 1984 film and a 2000 miniseries that aired on the Sci-Fi Channel (which was later renamed “SyFy” because the human brain seems to be deteriorating). This time, acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve will try his hand at bringing the epic tome to the screen. Dune was originally supposed to hit theaters last year, but the lockdowns – and James Bond – have forced it to October 22, 2021, where it will release in theaters and on HBO Max. Check out the new Dune trailer below:

I’m coming to this movie as a normie. I tried to read the book, but after about 100 pages, I had to quit; it’s not a difficult read – quite the opposite, actually – but it wasn’t for me. I saw about half of the Lynch version when I was a kid, but that bored me too. In other words, I’m not watching the Dune trailer as a fan who’s invested in this world and the characters, so when I tell you that it looks great to me, take that how you will. I love the look of the film, the designs of the clothing and armor, the vast desert, the ships and buildings (which, fittingly, feel like they have a strong HR Giger influence), and the sandworms rising from beneath. The shots of these visuals are spectacular, as you’d expect from a Villeneuve movie; he’s the big draw for me on this one, and barring unforeseen circumstances (like the return of masking), there’s no way I’m missing this on the big screen. You don’t get much of a sense of the performances in this trailer, but I like most of these people, so I’m sure that aspect will be fine. I’m hoping for a great sci-fi film with Dune, and something that will showcase the power of the theater at a time when they desperately need it.

As someone who knows nothing on Dune. It looks really nice. A lot of big names in there but they don’t look to be the main characters, for the most part. To me, that is great.
If I see this movie, it has to be at the movie theater.

Yeah, this looks made for the big screen. I’m looking forward to it in the same spirit you are.

I did NOT like the original Dune book, but I only read it once as a teen. It took about 3 or 4 books to get it to click. Around Dune: Messiah or God Emperor of Dune, it started to flow and then, Dune: House Atreidis finally got me into it all. Agree about the book and the Lynch movie, actually, but I read all the books now and finally, can see why there are Dune fanatics. I don’t know if I will see the films and shows, but the books ended up great for me. A great experience.
