RUMOR: Is Sam Raimi Finally Getting His Spider-Man 4?

Is Sam Raimi putting the Spider-band back together? In an interview with ComicBook.com about the upcoming Peacock series Twisted Metal, Thomas Haden Church – who played Spider-Man villain the Sandman in Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: No Way Home – said that he’s “heard rumors” of Raimi returning to make a fourth film in his Spider-Man series with Tobey Maguire back in the lead role.

“There’s always been some kind of… I’ve heard rumors… that Sam Raimi was going to do another [Spider-Man movie] with Tobey [Maguire] and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo.”

Raimi had planned on doing a fourth Spider-Man movie after Spider-Man 3; the script had been written and re-written several times, and at one point, John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway were in talks to play the Vulture and Felicia Hardy, the latter of whom would have become Black Cat, according to Raimi. But when Raimi eventually dropped out, the fourth entry in his series was scrapped, and the first Spider-Man reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, happened. Raimi made some comments after directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that suggested he would be amenable to making another Spider-Man movie:

I think it’s highly unlikely. Disney and Sony aren’t going to want to rock the boat too much now that they’ve got Tom Holland, who people seem to like, as Spider-Man, and they’ve set him up for further adventures as he navigates a new chapter of his life. At best, I could see Tobey Maguire making more multiverse appearances in other Marvel movies (which isn’t a good idea, but Hollywood loves the multiverse more than Garfield loves lasagna right now). But I’d bet on Raimi’s Spider-Man series being done.

Is it stranger but I really like Spider-Man 3. There is lots of content… but I love Harry’s quest for vengeance, Peter becoming evil, Sandman’s backstory etc. Compared to some of the recent stuff we get, it’s a pretty good movie!

I don’t remember it all that well. I only saw it once when it was in theaters. I remember thinking Venom was shoehorned in, which is because he really was (Raimi didn’t want the character but Avi Arad pushed him to do it).
