Ke Huy Kuan Will Star in Action Movie With Love

Ke Huy Kuan’s comeback is about to get a lot more interesting. Deadline exclusively reports that, following his Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once and his supporting role in season 2 of Loki, Kuan will star in With Love, an action movie from 87North. Nothing is known about the plot yet, but Kuan will play the lead character in With Love, which will be the directorial debut of Jonathan Eusebio, a stunt coordinator and second unit director who worked on Violent Night, Deadpool 2, the first three John Wick movies, and the Jason Bourne series. Universal will distribute the film, which has no production or release time frame yet.

Now, this excites me. Ke Huy Kuan was completely wasted in Loki (much like everyone else), and it was a shame to see his big comeback reduced to a goofy role on a bad show. But making him the lead of his own action movie sounds very cool, and I love that it’s with 87North, the company run by David Leitch (who co-directed John Wick) that gave us Nobody, Bullet Train, and Violent Night, two excellent modern action flicks. And in keeping with their pedigree, With Love is being directed by a former stuntman who worked on some great movies and shows (and, to be fair, Birds of Prey and Obi-Wan Kenobi). Check out his resume on IMDb; that’s impressive. I hope they give Kuan a good showcase not just for action but for his acting abilities; Loki made a joke out of him and treated him as a novelty, but I’d like to see With Love give him a little more humanity, something real to sink his teeth into. Now, he needs a great villain to play off of, someone truly evil to contrast with Kuan’s usually sunny, upbeat demeanor and who we can root for Kuan to take down in bloody, satisfying fashion.
