Can’t say I ever liked it. It’s one of those typical 90s star vehicles built around its main actor playing themselves in a wild setting. Much like Will Smith’s Enemy of the State or Wild Wild West. It’s lighthearted fantasy, but trivial and goes on too long for its own good. Like many comedies / adventure films of that era, the finaly is overblown, and the narrative is suffocated in endless scenes of people yelling and bombastic music. Much like the obligatory noisy CGI battles at the end of each Marvel movie. Many of these films would have been wise to take note of how Spielberg crafted his finales. He often placed the giant action setpieces in the middle (Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones trilogy) and would often place the main characters is smaller, more confined, but perilous situations towards the end of a film (Jurassic park with the raptors, Indiana Jones 3 with the finale just taking place in a room with cups, Jaws with the finale on an immobilized boat).

btw came across an interesting naval themed movie a while back: Master and Commander. Different style of film, but if you like pirate themed films, you may enjoy it. Has an incredible soundtrack and a fantastic performance by Russel Crowe

With the recent success of John Wick and Super Mario, and several big tentpole comic book movies flopping (Ant Man, Shazam, with The Marvels and Blue Beetle looking to bomb hard as well), do you think the superhero hype is finally over?
I noticed on a pirate streaming site, which has a “trending movies” list of the most streamed films, that while Shazam ranked #1 for about 5-7 days, Ant Man didn’t even rank #1 for one day. These streaming site rankings are unbiased, and you can’t buy movie theatre seats for them either (Captain Marvel). While a few years ago Marvel movies would rank on the front page for months or even half a year in case of No Way Home, it currently looks like the hype is over.
How do people you know feel about it? I know several who turned their backs on Marvel (even Democrats). What will be the next big thing? Video game movies? If so, I expect Sony and Nintendo stock to go through the roof.

Duh, obviously the West is a shithole. Everyone with eyes in their head can see it. I’m a Russian / Hungarian / Austrian Jew. Every time I visit family in Russia, I marvel at how clean and safe Moscow is compared to virtually any place in the West. You could eat off the sidewalk, it’s so clean.

The societal decay of the West is unquestionable. Explain how exactly that is the Jews’ fault? You mention 3 names. Of those one isn’t Jewish (Bill Gates). Soros is a former Nazi collaborator who helped identify Jews in Hungary during WW2, is generally seen as public enemy #1 in Israel and would likely be arrested in the spot should he ever set foot there. And Marx… you’re talking about Karl Marx right? The same who quoted Martin Luther at every opportunity? The same who wrote, when it came to Prussia debating giving equal rights to Jews, that this should only happen if they renounce Judaism, and that there was no room in an emancipated humanity for Jews?
The same Marx who claimed that Christians had been corrupted by Jews? Who wrote “What is the profane basis of Judaism? Practical need, self-interest. What is the worldly cult of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money. What is the basis of the Jewish religion? Practical need, egoism”.

The people you listed are all communists. Where did Communism come from? It wasn’t invented by Marx. The first use of the term Communist was by the French during the 1600s. Specifically, by radical Christians who advocated for the abolishment of private property.

All that being said, why are so many American and Western Jews left wing / Social Marxist?
During the 19th century, there was a split among the millions of Jews that fled westward from Russia. The right wing, zionist / nationalist half wanted to return to Israel and rejected living in the West. They mostly remained in Poland, Hungary and Ukraine, waiting for the official founding of Israel. The left wing saw the idea of a nationalist state as a betrayal of their ideals of an egalitarian world without borders where all were equal. They mostly moved to the US and UK, calling themselves Al Olim (global people … or “globalists”). That’s why “Jews” like Soros, Chomsky and other leftists are so virulently anti-Israel.
On the other hand, who are Israel’s closest allies? Hungary, Putin (who saved Israel from Obama https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200616-netanyahu-putin-saved-israel-from-unsc-resolution-to-create-palestine-state/ ), India, Czech Republic and the US briefly under Trump. Hungary’s Orban in particular received much support from Israel, who even helped him with his reelection campaign. And while Israel is under immense pressure by the US not to get too cozy with Russia, they work together quite closely from intelligence sharing to student exchanges to a visa waiver program (the US on the other hand maintains Israel doesn’t meet the qualifications for its visa waiver program).

In other words, the same people who are trying to save the West are also close with Israel, itself a right wing country. Hmmm, I wonder.

Maybe you just see the Jews as the culprits because that’s what the ruling elite in the West want you to believe. It’s the oldest, most reliable scapegoat if you want one, because no one really knows or understands anything about Judaism, and beyond that, the left really fucking hate Jews more than anyone. Even more than you do. Because unlike you, they know why. You don’t. You merely fell for the bait like an idiot.

To your final statement: yes, the world (humanity) has lost much through the fall of the West. What once was the light of civilization is now a toilet. But it was never us. It was Christianity and its later metastization of Communism / Socialism.
The core idea of egalitarian ideologies is that the strong and able must be cut down to size to uplift the weak and inferior. “Each to their ability”, as laid out in the bible. This has an anti-evolutionary, dysgenic effect on society. The virtuous and industrious are punished, while the stupid and lazy are subsidized. Consequency, intelligent people will have less children, and idiots will have more. As each generation further devolves, eventually you are left with a dysfunctional society of low IQ schmucks who need the government to hold their hand every step of the way. Exactly what the ruling class wants. You keep them entertained with bread and circus, you keep them in fear either of each other or you mix it up with some good old apocalyptic shit like global warming, and you designate anyone just wanting to live their life in peace as a villain (either a climate destroyer or perpetuater of systemic racism or whatever other shit they come up with). All people are born with inherent sin unless they repent, submit and sacrifice for the greater good. Sounds familiar, where have I heard that before… , the church pulled that same scam for 2000 years.

But that’s YOUR ideology. Not ours. YOU fucked up your societies. YOU voted for big government. Don’t blame us for doing right where you did wrong. If you had learned from us, it would never have happened.
While I’m tempted to gloat, I’m really not. If the West ends up becoming full communist, it will be much harder for Israel to survive, because not only will we have to deal with the psycho arabs, but also with the entire West as well. Difficult, even for us. While we are making deals with Russia, India and China behind your backs, those do come at great expense. It would be far easier and more convenient for us, if you got your shit together and stopped the Soroses, Obamas, Clintons, Merkels, Trudeaus etc.
Who are you trying to convince of your bravado (“put down with no regrets”)? Me or yourself. Those words are quite meaningless as long as you keep drinking the kool-aid. You ain’t saving the world by going after some imaginary Jewish cabal or some autistic transgender kid or some black people who complain about being stopped and frisked 4 times on their way home from work. Saving he world isn’t as easy as bullying someone you don’t like for arbitrary bullshit reasons. If history is anything to go by, you have neither the brains nor the heart to go after your real enemies.

Ultimately, you are why the West has fallen. As bad as Obama, Soros etc are… if you really want to find the guilty, you merely need to look in the mirror.

Found this monologue to be an excellent insight into woke psychology. It’s kind of slow, but I enjoyed the listen. Solid script read. I despise Bill Maher, but narrator goes more into the critics themselves.

“Top Gun Maverick” is the movie to beat this year, and DC’s Black Adam, Marvel’s Black Panther and Disney’s Avatar 2 are the only ones that even has a chance at doing it, and it’s doubtful even that they can.
Because everyone Top Gun Maverick, even the critics – And had Bill Maher up in arms! In a nutshell, his issue was that the very same critics who will always shame any woke and virtue signalling movie for not being woke enough, somehow gave the anti-woke Top Gun Maverick a pass? What gives?
Well, the good Mister Maher certainly missed the boat on this one, and now he does in a sense, knowingly or unwittingly, assist in rewriting history and hiding the backlash that did happen – but it just so happens that might have have some larger implications, as critics have to come to term with wokeness losing hround.

@Legatus_Legionis: I am right there with you man. Everything after Endgame is crap, except the Sony Marvel stuff (Spider-Man, Venom, etc). It felt good to have Sony’s Spider-Man No Way Home dominate most anything Disney had done with Marvel. It was like a slap in the face to Disney, and I enjoyed that.

@DragonLady : Agreed. I personally hate modern trailers. It’s the same “woosh..boom” garbage in everything. That low bass boom sound is in EVERYTHING, I am so sick of it. They take sci-fi or fantasy movies and put hip hop/rap in them WHICH DOES NOT FIT! They did it with the Kong vs Godzilla movie and it was f**king horrible!

@SuperSoynic_Speed : When you say “slaps hard” that shows your age right there. Modern hip-hop and rap is utter and complete trash imo. Flat out, I can’t stand it, at all. Most popular music now days is a computer program spitting out the same regurgitated crap over and over again calling it music. I am a musician who listens to a vast variety of music. I’ve taught guitar and drums. But imo this stuff young people are being fed by record companies now days is low IQ, no talent, garbage. You take 20 of the most popular songs right now, and most of them have the same 3 chords in them. And how many of them have the word “tonight” in them? Hmm? Ya. However, I am not here to tell you what to like or dislike either. More power to ya man. Also, mentioning crap like Thor Love and Thunder doesn’t do anything positive to your mention of Guns N Roses. It’s like saying they put Megadeth in the new Little Mermaid movie, absolutely nothing positive there because the movie is crap. When they do movie or tv shows trailers they need to put music in it that fits. For example, as I mentioned above, Rap and hip hop doesn’t belong in a Godzilla vs Kong trailer, it does NOT fit the feeling, atmosphere, or context of the movie, at all.

@DarthVengeant Out of all of them, Andor might be good. I reserve commentary, but fans are fans and can like anything they want, for whatever reason. I saw your comments on Cobra Kai and I am spellbound how good that show is, with the writing and the characters. The fight in Terry Silver’s house with the epic music, and the feeling that all was lost was good. I also liked Daniel’s daughter in the pod scene, and the scene with John Kreese, when he has a breakthrough in prison. Those cutaway shots to other people in their lives was excellent. Cobra Kai is like the anti-Disney in that it is done with almost no budget, whereas Disney really hits you with the Industrial Light and Magic.

No matter how bad things are, there are some good shows out there, but you have to know what you like and might have to dig. I mainly agree with the critics, but at least Star Wars seems to be trying, whereas Marvel looks like they have abandoned trying to be serious in any way, although they did have a Secret Invasion trailer and one for Werewolf By Night. They seem to be really reaching and grasping at the fringes for content.

Good point about political intrigue. At the time, I did not like the prequels, but the story of the takeover of the Senate from within was actually quite good, looking back. It stuck with me, that story. I think the obsession with Trump is a distraction from the real Sith or HYDRA in our governments in the west and what they are calling The GREAT Reset, even though it is just austerity.

Court Costs (Solo Avengers #14, 1989)

Lawyer Jennifer gets the highlight as she appears before the court to argue against the Mutant Registration Act. Out of all the storylines, this one is the likeliest to be adapted for the MCU, at least to some degree. Mutants have only just been introduced to the MCU in Ms. Marvel, so the timing would be almost perfect.

Going to Bat for Cap here. Not to undermine any of the Clark love, because all of that is true. Captain America has accomplishments but they can mostly be attributed to “Avengers” wins than individual like Superman. Korvac, Ultron, Thane Ector, Thanos a few times, Grim Reaper ect.  What Cap brings to the fold is his symbolism and leadership. Just showing up seems to gives Cap’s team confidence that they can win. Plus, before Marvel made him a modern day communist, he actually stood up for truth and justice, going so far as to say no to the government several times when they crossed the line, changing into Nomad, turning in his shield and going as US Agent, and then leading the team in Civil War.

I agree with the others that Superman is a far bigger IP and well known, and basically started the superhero genre, so his accomplishments are unmatched however, if  I crash landed on a island I’d rather have a long box of Cap’s comics than Superman’s to keep me company.
