The Gentlemen Trailer Brings Guy Ritchie’s World to Netflix

Netflix is about to take you on a tour of the British underworld. The first name in streaming released a trailer for The Gentlemen, the new crime series from Guy Ritchie “inspired by” his recent movie. The Gentlemen (the show) finds a man inheriting a large estate from his deceased father, only  to learn it houses a marijuana facility that belongs to Mickey Peasron, the character played by Matthew McConaughey in the film. Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Joely Richardson, Giancarlo Esposito, Vinnie Jones, Peter Serafinowicz, Daniel Ings, and Ray Winstone star in the series, with Guy Ritchie as an executive producer. The Gentlemen will arrive on Netflix in March of 2024 and consist of eight episodes. You can see the trailer below:

This trailer is a brief glimpse, but the show looks like it could be fun. I enjoyed the movie version of The Gentlemen, despite Charlie Hunnam’s presence. Guy Ritchie is very hit and miss with me – probably more of the latter than the former – but The Gentlemen was one of his good ones, and while the show seems like it’ll have very little to do with it, I can get behind a series with that same style. Having Mickey Pearson remain the pot overlord of London leaves room for a Matthew McConaughey cameo at some point, which would be very cool; in the meantime, it looks like Giancarlo Esposito will be his emissary, which is great because he makes everything he’s in better. There are quite a few good actors in this show aside from Esposito, particularly Peter Serafinowicz, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, and especially Ray Winstone, whom I’d put money on being the villain. Sure, it’s a shame to lose McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell,  and Michelle Dockery, but losing Hunnam and gaining these guys makes up for it. I don’t know most of the younger cast from Adam, so all I can do is hope they can hold their own with their co-stars. But I’m definitely interested, and I’ll check this out when it lands.
