TRAILER: The Bad Guys Gets a Holiday Special

Netflix and DreamWorks are releasing a Bad Guys holiday special this year, and the trailer just dropped. The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday will be a prequel to The Bad Guys, with the crew having to choose between a major heist and saving Christmas. Directed by Bret Haaland and featuring a new voice cast, The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday will arrive on Netflix on November 30, 2023. I really enjoyed The Bad Guys last year. It was shortly outdone by DreamWorks’ other big release that year, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. But The Bad Guys is a comedy, and a zany, charismatic one at that. One of my favorite elements was the cast and their chemistry, so I’m not thrilled to see that DreamWorks has recast everyone again, likely to save money. They usually do this with their TV spin-offs, and I can understand some of the practical reasons, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Equally unsurprising is the decrease in animation quality. Again, I understand budgetary concerns, but it makes me sad. This movie was a visual feast! I’m sure A Very Bad Holiday will be harmless fun for kids and families, but I’ll sit this one out.
