Dune First Look Finally Arrives Online

Paul Atreides’ journey is about to begin. Via an exclusive report from Vanity Fair, we have our first official look at Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated adaptation of Dune. You can check the exclusive pics out here. This project has become more intriguing with every casting announcement. Having followed the franchise for the better part of  the last fifteen years, I’ve always had an image of what these characters would look like in the theater of my mind (even though it’s a little surprising to see Zendaya, given her rumored small role in this first installment), so it’s a very pleasant surprise to see everyone from Lady Jessica to Muad’Dib himself Timothée Chalamet. I particularly like the look of Jason Momoa and Oscar Isaac as Duncan Idaho and Duke Leto, respectively.

There are a grandeur and scope to this Dune first look that Herbert’s work deserves, and I’m glad to see Villeneuve will give this adaptation the treatment its fans hoped it would receive. The costumes recall early scenes of Man of Steel, Excalibur, and even a bit of David Lynch’s iteration of this story. These images reaffirm that not only is this adaptation one to watch but also that Vanity Fair continues to put out some of the best promotional pieces in the business. For me, this in-depth analysis was over far too soon, so here’s hoping we get more insight into Denis Villeneuve’s take on Frank Herbert’s classic novel in the near future as we get a trailer and head ever closer to the December 2020 release date.

Do these new images make you excited to journey to Arrakis, or are you waiting on the first trailer before joining Paul’s new cinematic adventure? What films were you reminded of while reading this piece? Which character or actor are you most excited to see?
