Clint Eastwood Returns in The Mule Trailer

The Man With No Name has his real name above a movie again as Warner Bros. has just released a trailer for The Mule, directed by and starring Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood! The film, based on the true story of an old man who inadvertently becomes a drug courier to support himself and soon lands on the radar of the DEA, will mark Eastwood’s first time in front of the camera since Trouble With the Curve in 2012 (save an apparent cameo in American Sniper, which I’ll have to make a point of watching again soon so I can spot him). Also starring are Bradley Cooper, Michael Peña, Laurence Fishburne, Dianne Wiest, Andy Garcia, Alison Eastwood and Taissa Farmiga. The Mule releases on December 14, 2018. I’m more excited for The Mule than anything else coming out this year, and frankly, I’m glad I don’t have to choose between this and Avengers 4. I’m an enormous Clint Eastwood fan, and he acts so rarely nowadays. Aside from his choosiness of roles, he’s at an age where every movie he’s in feels like it could very well be his last, making each one an event (that is to say, even more of an event than it already would have been). The Mule looks like a great movie too; I love the somber, melancholic tone of the trailer. They’re playing up the regret Eastwood’s character feels, the desperation to rebuild whatever is left of his wasted life; these are themes Eastwood often explores in his later roles, and he always manages to find new angles from which to study them so it never feels redundant. He’s assembled a phenomenal cast, as he often does, and I can’t wait to see how he plays off of them all. This feels like another winner for one of our greatest icons.
