Ray Stevenson Joins Ahsoka Series

Actor Ray Stevenson has been cast in an unspecified role for Disney+’s Ahsoka. The actor is known for the Thor movies, Black Sails, and Kill the Irishman. He has voiced the character of Gar Saxon in the Star Wars series The Clone Wars and Rebels but is unlikely to reprise the same role as Saxon died in season 3 of Rebels. The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed what most people suspected: Grand Admiral Thrawn will be the series’ main antagonist. Thrawn was a fan-favorite character in the expanded universe. In the Disney era, he appeared as a major villain in Rebels.
I don’t think anyone will be shocked to learn that Thrawn will be the main villain for Ahsoka. Much like Ahsoka and Sabine’s search for Ezra, fans of the Star Wars TV shows have been waiting for a resolution with Thrawn since Rebels ended. Expanded universe fans might like to see him again as well, although I’ve heard there’s contention among them regarding his portrayal in the animated series. I’m eagerly awaiting Ahsoka for numerous reasons, including those I mentioned and because I just love Ahsoka as a character. I would have liked an animated continuation of these Rebels story threads much better, but I’ll take what we can get.
I like Ray Stevenson a lot. I’ve seen him in supporting roles in a few things, and he’s always very good. Gar Saxon is the kind of character you just love to hate, and Stevenson brought gravitas and a sense of zealotry to him. I wouldn’t be surprised if Stevenson portrays a relative of his previous character. I’m thinking about Jon Favreau voicing Death Watch leader Pre Vizsla in The Clone Wars and then Paz Viszla in The Mandalorian. Stevenson may be playing a brand new, unrelated character, but I doubt it. I think they would have a reason for casting the same actor again.

Agreed on both counts. I imagine his character was modeled on him to some degree, Disney did that with Demi Moore/Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I also hope they get Mikkelsen back for Thrawn and will be disappointed if they recast him.
Ray almost looks like Saxon. I’m not whom he’ll play but his casting is confusing since Saxon is dead. Sure, Sam Witwer voiced the Brother in Clone Wars before becoming Maul and I forgot Jon Favreau plays two characters who are related to one another. I hope they bring Lars Mikkelsen back as Thrawn because I can’t think of anyone else to do it.
